Cleaning Routines
How Often Should You Deep Clean Your House? Room-by-Room Guide
Most of us clean reactively, when something looks dirty or guests are coming. But a simple deep cleaning schedule keeps your home healthier, makes every clean faster, and stops grime building into the kind of job you dread. This room-by-room guide breaks down what to clean daily, weekly, monthly and seasonally, so you always know what's due without overthinking it.
What counts as 'deep cleaning'?
Regular cleaning keeps surfaces tidy and hygienic, wiping benches, vacuuming, doing dishes. Deep cleaning targets the build-up that everyday cleaning misses: inside appliances, behind furniture, grout, skirting boards, light fittings and the spots you can't see at a glance. A good rhythm combines frequent light cleaning with periodic deep cleaning so nothing gets out of hand.
The quick-reference deep cleaning schedule

Room-by-room deep cleaning frequency
Kitchen
The hardest-working room. Deep clean the oven and rangehood every 3 months (more if you cook a lot), clean the fridge interior monthly, and descale the kettle and dishwasher every few months. Degrease cupboard fronts and the splashback monthly to stop sticky build-up. (Here's how to clean the oven naturally.)
Bathrooms
Because of moisture, bathrooms need more frequent deep attention, especially in the humid Gold Coast climate. Tackle grout, silicone and any mould monthly to stop it spreading, descale showerheads and taps every couple of months, and wash bath mats weekly.
Bedrooms
Wash linen weekly and pillows and doonas a few times a year. Vacuum under the bed monthly, flip or rotate the mattress every few months, and deep clean wardrobes seasonally.
Living areas
Vacuum upholstery and under cushions monthly, dust blinds and skirting monthly, and steam clean carpets and sofas seasonally or twice a year depending on traffic, pets and allergies.
Households with pets, young children, or allergy sufferers should deep clean more often, especially carpets, upholstery and air vents, since these trap dander, dust and allergens that affect air quality.
Why a deep cleaning schedule is worth it
Beyond appearances, regular deep cleaning improves indoor air quality, reduces allergens and mould, extends the life of your carpets and appliances, and makes routine cleaning far quicker. Spreading deep tasks across a calendar means you never face an overwhelming all-day blitz.
Don't have time for the seasonal deep clean? Our Gold Coast team offers one-off deep cleans and recurring schedules that handle the build-up for you, oven, carpets, windows and all.
Book a deep cleanFrequently asked questions
How often should the whole house get a full deep clean?
A complete top-to-bottom deep clean every 3 to 6 months works for most homes, on top of your weekly cleaning. Adjust based on household size, pets and how much wear the home gets.
Is it cheaper to deep clean regularly or let it build up?
Regular deep cleaning is both cheaper and easier. A home that's maintained takes less time (and lower cost) to clean than one where grime has set in for months.
